Welcome to the RavenswoodCommunityGardens webpage. We are a community based program that is located in Ravenswood, Launceston, Tasmania.
The garden commenced life in 1996, on the far end of an old football oval at the local school. The idea of the garden came from a future search for the Ravenswood Community as a way to develop community connections and possible employment potentials for the long term unemployed. Over the last ten years the RCG has grown from being an unused corner of the school oval to a vibrant community garden with 150 - 200 participants a week.
Participants include volunteers from the community, unemployed men and women and students from schools across Launceston.
The garden practices the principles of: *Organic gardening. *Seed saving. *Mentoring. *Community reconnection and development.
The garden provides a forum for learning life skills. Here people have a safe environment in which to learn how to be successful and develop the skills needed to live full and productive lives.
